All-LSC South Team
RICHARDSON – The Lone Star Conference champion ACU Wildcats dominated the all-LSC South Division team, which was released Wednesday, placing 12 players on the first team and 28 players overall on the team and taking six individual post-season awards.
Sophomore quarterback Mitchell Gale – one of 24 regional finalists for the Harlon Hill Award – was voted the Offensive Back of the Year, while senior Edmund Gates was voted the Wide Receiver of the Year. Senior offensive guard Royland Tubbs was voted co-Offensive Lineman of the Year, while running back Darrell Cantu-Harkless was voted Freshman of the Year.
For the second straight year, junior Aston Whiteside was voted Defensive Lineman of the Year, and for the fourth time in six seasons, Chris Thomsen was voted the Coach of the Year.
The Wildcats, who claimed the LSC and South Division titles, had seven players on the top offense and five more on the first-team defense after recording the first 11-0 regular season mark in program history.
The first team offensive players are Gale (quarterback), Gates (wide receiver), Tubbs (offensive line), Emery Dudensing (fullback), Ben Gibbs (tight end), Trevis Turner (offensive line), and Matt Webber (offensive line). The first team defensive selections are Whiteside (defensive end), Fred Thompson (defensive end), Marvin Jones (defensive tackle), Kevin Washington (linebacker), and Courtney Lane (linebacker).
The Wildcats had two second team selections on offense and four second team defensive selections.
