2009 (Junior): Repeated fourth place ranking in tackles for Wildcats with 55 (19 solo) for 9-4 NCAA playoff team. Also had 10 tackles behind the line of scrimmage and 1.5 quarterback sacks. Turned in 1 pass breakup and 2 QB hurries. Recovered 1 fumble in playoff win over Midwestern State. Opened season with 7-tackle performance against nationally-ranked NW Missouri State and also had 9 tackles vs. MSU in regular season and 8 tackles vs. Angelo State.
2008 (Sophomore): Finished fourth on the team in tackles with 56 (30 solo) and had 4 tackles for loss (21 yards in losses) and 1.5 sacks (15 yards in losses). Edwards had 2 quarterback hurries, forced 2 fumbles and recovered 1 fumble on the season. He recorded a career-best 9 tackles in ACU’s season-opening win at Northwest Missouri State and came back with 9 more tackles three weeks later in ACU’s road win at Southeastern Oklahoma State. He finished his season with 8 tackles in ACU’s NCAA Division II quarterfinal loss to Northwest Missouri State.
2007 (Freshman): Played in 7 games as a true freshman, finishing with 21 total tackles (10 solo) to go along with 0.5 tackle for loss and 0.5 sack and 1 pass breakup. In his first collegiate game (vs. Northeastern State on Oct. 6), Edwards finished with 4 solo tackles and 1 pass breakup. Had a season-high 7 tackles (2 solo) and 0.5 sack in the Wildcats’ 56-12 win over Mesa State (Colo.) in a Nov. 17 NCAA Division II first round playoff game.
High school: Edwards was the defensive MVP of the Abilene Reporter-News Big Country Super Team after leading Stephenville HS to a 10-2 record in 2006. Edwards was in on an incredible 247 tackles (62 solo) and had 5 interceptions to go along with 14 tackles for loss. He forced 7 fumbles and had 5 fumble recoveries while breaking up 9 passes. Edwards was a three-year letterman for Stephenville, and the Yellow Jackets were a combined 33-4 in those three seasons. He was a first team all-district running back in 2005 and 2006 and first team all-district linebacker in 2004 and 2006. He was a first team Class 4A all-state selection at linebacker by the Texas Sports Writers Association in 2006 and a second team all-state selection at linebacker by the Associated Press. Edwards also lettered in baseball and track and field.
Personal: Born 22 Aug 1988. 2007 graduate of Stephenville High School in Stephenville, Texas. His grandfather is K.Y. Owens, a former ACU assistant football coach and member of the ACU Sports Hall of Fame. His father is Randall Edwards, an ACU letterman and assistant coach at Stephenville HS.
