ACU Goes to 2-0 in Conference with Win Over Bears
10/10/2026 10:45:00 PM | Football
Time and time again Abilene Christian did the simplest but most important thing: move the chains. The Wildcats devoured the clock, were +2 in the turnover battle and defeated Central Arkansas 20-14 on Saturday night at Anthony Field at Wildcat Stadium.
The victory lifts ACU to 3-4 overall and 2-0 in the United Athletic Conference. It is the third straight season the Cats have started league play with two consecutive wins, and pushes their home winning streak in the UAC to 10 games.
ACU bookended the game with time-consuming, lengthy drives. After receiving the opening kickoff, the Wildcats marched on a season-high 18-play possession which took 7:30 off the clock and featured back-to-back 3rd down conversions on passes from Tucker Parks to tight end Jayden York. The drive ended with a 26-yard Brandon Perez field goal.
Central Arkansas responded with a long drive of its own, but on 4th and 4 at ACU's 35 yard line, Santana Miller leaped in the passing lane, tipped the ball to himself and returned the interception 29 yards to the Bears 41. A dead-ball personal foul by UCA moved the ball to the 26, and two plays later Parks ran for a 2-yard touchdown to put the Wildcats ahead 10-0.
Â
ACU extended its lead to 17 when Parks connected with Dallas Dudley on a slant route in the endzone from 10 yards out, capping a 10-play, 75-yard drive.
After shutting out West Florida 28-0 in the first half last week, the Wildcats ended to the locker room in front of Central Arkansas 17-0.
The Bears, however, scored on their first drive of the second half and hit an explosive score on a 46-yard run by Jalen Washington to pull within six points with 8:11 to go. They never touched the ball again.
ACU used up the rest of the clock on 15 plays, including converting a 3rd and 12 at their own 34 when Parks scrambled for 17 yards. Two minutes later, ACU needed five yards to keep the drive alive - Parks ran for six. Another set of downs, another 3rd down conversion. On 3rd and 1 with 2:09 remaining, Rovaughn Banks Jr. pushed up the middle for two.
The Wildcats finished 10-of-14 on 3rd downs, held the ball for 36:23 and limited Central Arkansas to just 47 offensive snaps. They pieced together drives of 18, 10 and 15 plays, consuming 7:30, 5:53 and 8:11, respectively.
Linebacker Boone Morris, the son of two ACU alums, stopped the Bears on their only trip into the redzone when he recovered a botched exchange between the UCA quarterback and running back in the 4th quarter.
