ACU's Gipson Signs Deal with Montreal Alouettes

Abilene Christian receiver Javon Gipson signed a two-year contract with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League, the team announced on Tuesday.
Gipson participated in a three-day rookie minicamp with the NFL's New Orleans Saints in early May.
Gipson appeared in 26 games over the 2024 and 2025 seasons at ACU after transferring from Baylor. The Richmond, Texas native totaled 1,357 receiving yards on 87 catches with eight touchdowns.
Gipson broke into the top 10 of ACU's single-season record book by hauling in 64 passes during his final season (tied for 10th most). He was also just the third player in the program's Division I era to eclipse the 1,000-yard mark in a season.
His final season was highlighted by three straight 100-yard games as the Wildcats pushed to win the United Athletic Conference title and advance to the second round of the FCS Playoffs for the second year in-a-row. Gipson was the first ACU player to have three consecutive 100-yard receiving games since ACU Sports Hall of Fame member Taylor Gabriel, who played six years in the NFL, did it in the final three games of the 2011 season.
Gipson joins former ACU running back Sam Hicks in the CFL. Hicks, who spent the 2024 season with the Wildcats, signed a contract with the Toronto Argonauts in January. Six former ACU players have spent at least one full season on an active or practice roster in the CFL -- quarterbacks Jim Lindsey, Clint Longey and Mitchell Gale, defensive end Aston Whiteside, offensive lineman Tony Washington, and defensive back Mark Jackson.
The Alouettes began training camp on May 10 in Quebec City, and will play two preseason games before their season opener on June 4 against Hamilton. Should Hicks and Gipson both stay on their teams' respective official rosters, they will square off against one another in week two when Toronto visits Montreal on June 12.
The Alouettes have played for the CFL's highest prize - the Grey Cup - twice in the past three seasons, winning the championship in 2023 and losing in the final in 2025.
