They will be tested early as they travel to the New Mexico State Invitational. The Wildcats will join the likes of Arizona, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Western New Mexico, and Montery Tech in their first tournament of the season. The men's squad will be split with some traveling to Las Cruces, New Mexico while others stay and host the ACU Wal-Mart Open. Both tournaments start this weekend and run through the weekend.
After finishing the season ranked #14 in the nation the Wildcats will look to Eldad Campbell to fill the number one slot. Campbell a sophomore from Jamica played behind All-American Juan Nunez and filled his position at times while Nunez was out with injury.
“I feel we have great depth to our team with Eldad most likely playing as our number one. Bryan Joiner and Luke Hawk are also returners who have played every since their freshmen season,” said head coach Hutton Jones.
Joiner a junior and Hawk, a senior were big parts of last season helping the Wildcats finish 26-8 on the season. The Wildcats will also return the services of Brett Proctor who sat out last season with a medical redshirt.
Other members who will try and push for a spot in the top six or seven include: Junior Karl Bein from Abilene, sophomores Corey Hale, Cody McCarty and John Strahl. Newcomers for the Wildcats are freshmen Hans Hach who was the No. 2-ranked player in Mexico 18s and the top 250 in the world ITF Junior rankings. Deenis Roy, Tucker Mueck, Josh Marshall and Jon Kelley round out the freshmen class for the Wildcats. Kelley's twin sister Hannah is a freshmen on the women's team.
