2012 (Senior):  Enters his senior season on the verge of setting every significant passing record in ACU and Lone Star Conference history.  Gale has already been selected as the NCAA Division II Pre-Season Offensive Player of the Year by Lindy's magazine and the LSC Pre-Season Offensive Player of the Year.  For his career, Gale has completed 703 of 1,133 passes for 9,127 yards and 76 touchdowns.  He needs to complete just 116 passes and attempt 188 passes to surpass former ACU great Billy Malone as the LSC and ACU career leader in both categories.  If he throws for at least 2,873 yards in 2012, he will join Malone as career 12,000-yard passers. That would make Abilene Christian only the fifth school in NCAA history to feature two 12,000-yard passers in their record books, joining Hawai'i, Texas Tech, Houston and Weber State in that select club.If Gale tops 12,000 yards, he and Malone will have topped that number as back-to-back starting quarterbacks, something only Houston (Kevin Kolb and Case Keenum from 2003 to 2011) and Hawai'i (Timmy Chang and Colt Brennan from 2000-2007) have done in NCAA history.  Gale needs to pass for 2,886 yards to surpass Malone's career total of 12,012 yards and become the all-time leader in passing yards in LSC and ACU history. He also needs just 2,545 yards of total offense to become the all-time ACU and LSC leader in that category as well.  He needs 39 touchdown passes this season to surpass Malone's LSC and ACU record total of 114 for his career.  Enters the season with 15 career 300-yard passing games, needing six more in 2012 to surpass Malone's ACU record of 20 300-yard passing games.  He also needs  seven victories to tie Malone's career record of 30 wins as a starting quarterback.  Since taking over as the Wildcats' starting quarterback early in the 2009 season, Gale has helped ACU post a .742 winning percentage (23-8) which includes an undefeated regular season in 2010. Last year's squad recorded an 8-3 mark and finished as the runner-up to Midwestern State in the Lone Star Conference.  ACU reached the NCAA Division II playoffs for the sixth straight season in 2011 joining Northwest Missouri State, Albany State (Ga.) and North Alabama as the only NCAA Division II programs to reach the NCAA playoffs in each of the last six seasons.

2011 (Junior):  Gale posted one of the great seasons by a quarterback in ACU history, throwing for 3,823 yards (second in ACU single-season  history) with 28 touchdown passes (tied for fifth), while leading ACU to another berth in the NCAA Division II playoffs.  After throwing just three interceptions in 2010, Gale threw four in the Wildcats' first two games, but in the Wildcats' final nine games he threw 350 passes and only five were intercepted.  Three of those interceptions came in ACU's season-ending loss to Washburn (Kan.) in the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs.  Despite throwing the three interceptions, Gale had one of the finest performances of his career, completing 29 of 48 passes for 506 yards and four touchdowns.  The 506 yards is the second-best single-game total in ACU history (behind Jim Reese's 564-yard effort against Angelo State in 1976), and his 526 yards of total offense set an ACU single-game record.  He was able to keep the Wildcats in the game and throw for 506 yards despite being sacked seven times, knocked to the ground several more times and suffering a mild concussion late in the game.  He threw for at least 300 yards in eight games, at least 400 yards in three games and 500 yards once.  He tied his own ACU single-season record with 276 completions in 2011 and had three games in which he completed at least 30 passes (33 vs. North Alabama on Sept. 17, 32 vs. Midwestern State on Oct. 22, and 30 at Texas A&M-Kingsville on Nov. 5).  Led the Wildcats to two fourth-quarter comeback victories: at Tarleton State in the season-opener on Sept. 1 and at Kingsville on Oct. 30.  In those two games he was 56 of 91 for 743 yards and six touchdown passes against just two interceptions (both against Tarleton State).  A second team all-LSC selection, Gale was also one of 22 initial national finalists for the Harlon Hill Award, which is given annually to the top player in NCAA Division II football.  He was also selected an honorable mention all-America by Don Hansen's Football Gazette.  Pre-season pick as LSC Offensive Player of the Year.  Also pre-season all-America pick of d2football.com.

2010 (Sophomore):  Finalist for Harlon Hill award as Player of the Year in NCAA Division II after record-setting season in which he directed Wildcats to first 11-0 regular season in ACU history.  After first-round bye, 11-1 season ended with playoff loss to Central Missouri.  In 12 games Gale completed 276 of 425 passes (.649) for 3,595 yards with 38 TDs and only 3 interceptions.  He led LSC in passing efficiency (164.1) and ranked third in yards per game (299.6) and third in total offense (304.8 yards per game).  In NCAA statistics, he was third in pass efficiency and 15th in total offense.  His 276 completions and 38 TD passes were ACU records.  He ranks 8th in ACU career passing with 5,304 yards (Billy Malone is the leader at 12,012).  (He’ll break the record by averaging 3,354 yards for junior and senior seasons.)  Also on career lists, he is 6th in completions, 9th in attempts and 4th in TD passes (48 to decisively trail Malone’s record of 114).  He was captain and team MVP on offense.  His 3,595 yards was second best season in ACU history (Malone leads at 3,914.  Gale’s other awards included first team all-LSC, LSC offensive Back of the Year, second team Daktronics all-Region IV, second team all-Region IV by Football Gazette and honorable mention all-America by Football Gazette.  Turned in top game of 417 yards (34-51-0 with 3 TDs) in 31-24 road win at Texas A&M-Kingsville (only 6 more productive games in ACU history).  Also had five 300-yard games, including 3 consecutive in October.  Played first six games without INT before Oct. 16 pick in second quarter at Incarnate Word.  That ended a streak of 292 passes without an interception dating back to Nov. 7 in third quarter of regular season 15-13 loss at Midwestern State.

2009 (Freshmen): Gale emerged as the Wildcat quarterback in week six against East Central. He threw for 1,709 yards in his first season at ACU replacing Billy Malone. Threw for 10 TDs on the season with 7 interceptions to finish with a 125 passer rating. In his first start Gale was 20 of 28 for 300 yards and 3 TDs in a 43-6 win at East Central. He twice threw for 200-plus yards in a win at Angelo State (218 yds) and a home win against Texas A&M-Kingsville (289 yds). Twice threw for 2 TDs, first in a 24-of-34 performance for 289 yards against the Javelinas and in a second round playoff win at Midwestern State where he was 14-of-20 for 141 yards in the win. No interceptions in last two games of season and only one in last four.

2008 (Freshman): Redshirt.

High school: Gale was one of the top quarterbacks in Oklahoma, a Class 2A all-state selection who was the No. 4-ranked quarterback in the state in the pre-season by High School Sports The Magazine. As a senior Gale threw for 2,216 yards and 26 touchdowns for a 10-2 squad that reached the second round of the playoffs. As a junior, Gale threw for 1,988 yards and 24 touchdowns, and as a sophomore he threw for 1,524 yards and 17 touchdowns. As a senior he was an honorable mention all-state selection by Daily Oklahoman and Tulsa World. In three years as the starter, Gale led his team to a combined 32-6 record and threw for 5,728 yards and 67 touchdowns. Gale also lettered in baseball and basketball.

Personal: Born 07 Jan 1990.  2008 graduate of Alva (Okla.) High School.  His father, Steve Gale, was his high school coach and he played quarterback at Northwestern Oklahoma State from 1978-81.  Mitchell's brother, Tyson Gale, played linebacker at Marshall (WVa.) from 2008-11.
