Zach Smith

Zach Smith enters his second season at ACU and his first season at Director of Pitching Development. Smith's first year coaching at ACU where he became the Director of Pitching performance and analytics after finishing a six-year collegiate career at Abilene Christian. Smith's primary duties include working with the pitching staff, training pitchers and analyzing team data analytics. 

In his collegiate career, Smith played as a pitcher and an infielder for the Wildcats. In his five season career, Smith posted a 5.15 career ERA across 49 relief appearances, totaling 64.2 innings pitched. He recorded a 2-3 record with nine saves, striking out 53 batters. His best season came in 2019 with a 3.26 ERA over 19.1 innings, while 2023 marked his most active year, pitching 35 innings and earning two wins and nine saves.

The Abilene native also earned an undergraduate degrees in business management and marketing and a masters of business administration with a data analytics concentration from Abilene Christian.

Smith’s family includes his father, Kelly, who ran and coached track at Abilene Christian, his mother, Whitney, his stepmother Gola and his brother, Jackson.
