Junior college (2009-2010): In two seasons at American River, Finklea hit .371 with two home runs and 32 runs scored. ... He was a second team all-conference selection as a freshman in 2009 and was fifth in the league in batting average (.397).

High school: While at Bear Creek HS, Finklea was the Defensive Player of the Year and the team MVP of the football team and batted .370 with 18 stolen bases for the baseball team.
