The women's soccer team started its season the way everyone hopes to – a 3-1 victory on the road. Propelled to victory by goals from Addison Briscoe, Aliyah Anderson and Mikayla Abrenica, the Wildcats will look to bring momentum into their first home tests of the season.
The opening match at Elmer Gray Stadium will pit the Wildcats against the Aggies from New Mexico State University on Thursday at 7 p.m.
Losing their first two games of the season to Arizona State University and the University of Arizona, the Aggies will have a chip on their shoulder as they come to Abilene.
NMSU finished the 2025 season 2-12-4 in ninth place in Conference USA. One of the Aggies' wins came on Aug. 17, in a 1-0 victory over the Wildcats in Las Cruces, NM.
Following Thursday's match, the Wildcats will turn their eyes to Sunday's opponent in the University of Texas-El Paso. The two teams most recently played each other in El Paso on Aug. 14, 2025, in a game that ACU won 1-0.
UTEP finished the 2025 season 3-9-5 in 11th place out of 12 teams in Conference USA. However, just like the Wildcats, the Miners entered into a new conference on July 1, moving from CUSA to the Mountain West.
The Miners have started the young 2026 season with a 2-0 victory over Lamar and a 5-0 victory over Div. II opponent Sul Ross State. Through its first two games, UTEP has averaged 21 shots per game, posing a tall task for Wildcat goalkeeper Bella Medrano, who has faced just five shots in the first week of the season.
Before traveling to Abilene, the Miners will play another Texas opponent, Tarleton State University, on Thursday in Stephenville.
Sunday's match against UTEP will kick off at 1 p.m.
