PHILADELPHIA - Abilene Christian left-handed pitcher Brett Lanman was selected by the Boston Red Sox with the 185th pick in the sixth round of the 2026 MLB Draft on Sunday morning. Lanman is the 10th Wildcat pitcher in the past four seasons to be drafted by or sign with a Major League franchise.
Lanman is the 17th draft pick in program history and its third-highest selection, following ACU Sports Hall of Famer Bill Gilbreth in 1969 (67th overall, Tigers) and Dominick Reid in 2025 (90th, Cubs). An ACU pitcher has been drafted in each of the past four seasons, with six total selected.
In eight seasons under head coach Rick McCarty, 11 Wildcats have been drafted by or signed with a Big League club. The 185th draft slot features an approximate pick value of $352,900.
Lanman established himself as an ace in three seasons at ACU. The Fairview, Texas product built a 15-10 record with a 5.02 ERA in 46 appearances and 45 starts. Lanman struck out 239 batters in 215.0 innings while walking just 97. He limited opponents to a .246 batting average.
