SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Brett Lanman delivered one of his best outings of the season as Abilene Christian baseball was dealt a 4-3 loss to Sacramento State on Saturday. The Hornets scored in each of the final two innings to walk off the Wildcats at John Smith Field.

ACU aims to capture its second Western Athletic Conference series victory in Sunday's rubber game. The weekend wraps up at 12:30 p.m. (CT), with Evan Whiteaker set to start on the mound for the Wildcats. Sunday's finale can be streamed on ESPN+.

Lanman matched his season high with seven innings and struck out 10 batters. He allowed two runs on a season-low two hits while facing the minimum in five of his seven frames. It's Lanman's third outing with double-digit strikeouts.

After Sacramento State grabbed a 2-0 lead through four frames, Maddox Miesse evened the score with his third home run of the season. Kanon Sundgren led off the top of the fifth inning with a single, one of his team-high three hits, before Miesse went deep to left field to tie the game at 2.

Grant Watkins put ACU in front in the following inning after a leadoff double by JT Thompson. Reese Borho's sacrifice bunt moved Thompson to third, and Watkins roped an RBI single to center field to bring him home. It's Watkins' 45th RBI of the season.

Batting eighth and ninth in the lineup, Sundgren and Miesse combined to go 5 for 7 with half of the Wildcats' 10 hits. Thompson elevated his hitting streak to 10 games, while Nick Arias raised his to eight. Both batters reached base safely for the 16th consecutive game. Diego Cardenas walked twice to raise his streak to 13 games.
