Thompson Stays Hot as Wildcats Drop Midweek Matchup to Patriots

The Wildcats look to bounce back on the road as they take on Sacramento State this weekend. The series begins at John Smith Field at 8 p.m. (CT) Friday ahead of a 4 p.m. (CT) first pitch Saturday. The weekend wraps up in Sacramento, Calif. at 12:30 p.m. (CT) Sunday. Each game will be streamed on ESPN+.
Thompson has reached base safely in 14 games in a row with 17 hits in his last 13 matchups. His .333 batting average is good for second on the team, and he has 13 multi-hit games this season. Thompson helped give ACU an early 3-0 lead against Dallas Baptist with a two-run single in the first inning.
Brady Ladusau followed with an RBI single to put the Wildcats up by three after one. Ladusau collected two hits of his own and scored a run. Diego Cardenas picked up his conference-leading 54th RBI of the season with a bases-loaded walk in the seventh. He matched his career high with three walks drawn, making it aboard for the 11th game in a row.
Nick Arias notched a single in the first inning and scored a run to reach base safely for his 14th consecutive game.
Collin Adams opened the game with two scoreless frames and a strikeout, followed by Baron Mannis' two scoreless innings with three punchouts. Noah Galvan and Everett Swaim combined for a scoreless inning, with Swaim punching out the only batter he faced.
Walks to Zandt Payne and Ryan Jones sandwiched Arias' single to load the bases in the bottom of the first. Thompson poked a two-run single to the right side, while Ladusau sent a 2-2 offering to left field to plate Jones.
After being held scoreless by Adams and Mannis for four frames, the Patriots used three big innings to build their lead, beginning with a seven-run fifth.
