Borho Plays Hero for ACU With Walk-Off Single in 9-8 Win Over UT Arlington

ABILENE - Reese Borho was ready when his number was called upon, delivering a walk-off single to launch Abilene Christian baseball to a 9-8 win over UT Arlington in 10 innings at Crutcher Scott Field at Bullock Brothers Ballpark on Saturday. The Wildcats evened the series versus the Mavericks with their third walk-off victory of the season.
Two big innings gave ACU a 7-4 lead through six frames, but UT Arlington responded with a four-run eighth to move in front, 8-7. Brady Gray's RBI double leveled the score at 8 in the bottom of the frame. Two singles put a pair on in the 10th, and Borho, who entered the game in the eighth inning as a defensive substitution, played the hero with a single to right field, scoring JT Thompson.
The Wildcats look to clinch their first Western Athletic Conference series of the season in Sunday's 1 p.m. rubber game. It's Challengers Day and Bark in the Park at The Crutch. The matchup can be streamed on WAC International.
ACU tallied 13 hits on Saturday and have 25 over the series' first two games. JT Thompson extended his hitting streak to six games with a 3-for-4 performance that featured two runs batted in and three runs scored. He got the bottom of the 10th inning started with a single up the middle and raced home from second to supply the winning run. Thompson has registered hits in 10 of his last 11 contests while maneuvering from second base to center field. He's raised his batting average to .315.
Brady Gray had one of his most productive efforts of the season, driving in three runs, including the tying run in the eighth, behind two hits. After the Wildcats went down 3-0, Brady Ladusau knotted the score with a two-run homer in the fourth inning. It's his fifth long ball of the season, strengthening the program's Division I true freshman record.
Diego Cardenas collected a couple of hits, and Nick Arias crossed home plate twice. Kanon Sundgren was also productive in a substitute role after entering as a pinch runner. He singled in the 10th to move Thompson into scoring position.
Cardenas and Thompson logged their 14th and 11th multi-hit games of the season, respectively.
Brady Coe earned his second win of the season, allowing no runs over the ninth and 10th innings. He pitched 2.2 frames with a strikeout.
The Mavericks struck first with a three-run third inning, but the Wildcats answered with three runs in the fourth. Maddox Miesse led off with a single, and a Cardenas base hit put runners on the corners before Miesse sprinted home on a fielder's choice by Arias. Two pitches later, Ladusau went deep to left field to make it a new ballgame, tied at 3.
UT Arlington got an unearned run back in the fifth inning, but ACU struck for four runs in the sixth, each with two outs. Arias singled and Ladusau was hit by a pitch ahead of Thompson's go-ahead base hit to center field, scoring both. Grant Watkins followed with a single, and Gray roped a two-run single to left field to push the Wildcats in front, 7-4.
