
ACU Hosts Second Installment of West Texas Classic at Abilene Country Club

ABILENE - No. 108 Abilene Christian women's golf will host the second rendition of the West Texas Classic at Abilene Country Club's North Course on Monday and Tuesday. The Wildcats look to defend their crown from last season's inaugural event, where Ryann Honea captured the individual title at 2-under 138.
Golfers will play two rounds on Monday and one round on Tuesday, with both days featuring an 8:15 a.m. shotgun start. Admission is free.
Each member of ACU's roster will take part in the tournament, with Kate Pickrell and Julia Vollmer competing as individuals.
The Wildcats welcome a 16-team field to Abilene, with three individuals from No. 44 Texas Tech also competing at the par-70, 6,246-yard course.
No. 146 UT Arlington, No. 158 UTEP, No. 187 A&M-Corpus Christi, No. 207 Incarnate Word, No. 224 Lamar, No. 248 Texas Southern, No. 261 Prairie View A&M and No. 268 Stephen F. Austin will join ACU in representing the Lone Star State.
No. 128 Northern Colorado, No. 161 Bowling Green, No. 172 South Dakota State, No. 188 Utah Valley, No. 194 Drake, No. 203 Toledo and NAIA power Oklahoma City round out the field.
The Wildcats shot 21-over 581, 12 strokes above the second-place team, in last season's West Texas Classic that was shortened to two rounds due to heavy winds. With Honea leading the charge, Pickrell tied for fourth, Jiyu Han, Marissa Loya and Vollmer each drew for 11th and Jasmine Do tied for 24th.
ACU returns to the course for the first time since opening the spring season at the UCF Challenge presented by PDI on Jan. 25-27. The Wildcats placed 12th in Orlando, Fla., with Pickrell leading the way in a tie for 41st at 4-over 220.
No. 135 Honea, the highest-ranked golfer in the Western Athletic Conference per Clippd, landed in the top 15 in each of ACU's four tournaments in the fall, including an individual title at The Lady Clerico and a tie for third place at the Boilermaker Classic. She registered six rounds under par.
Vollmer landed in the top 10 on two occasions, tying for third at The Lady Clerico and drawing for ninth at the Red Raider Invitational. Kamas registered a pair of top-15 efforts in the fall, including an eighth-place showing at the Red Raider Invitational. She notched four rounds at or below par.
