ABILENE — The Wildcats (4-2-4, 1-0-1) will look to maintain their spot at the top of the Red Division in the United Athletic Conference when they host the University of Central Arkansas in the first conference game in Abilene this season.Â
The Bears are 1-1 in conference with a win over Little Rock and a loss to Tarleton State, the same two teams that ACU has played. UCA is 4-5-2 through the whole season, including a 0-3-2 record in road games.
The Wildcats have a spread out offense with 10 goal scorers this season, led by freshman Addison Briscoe, who has four goals this season. Freshman Audrey Coppinger has also tallied two goals this season, tied for second most on the team.Â
In the Wildcats' last game, ACU defeated Tarleton State 3-2 in Stephenville. All three goals for the team came from players who had not scored yet this season: Amelia Miller, Raelin Miller and Sophia Saludares, who scored her first goal of her career as well.
Defensively, ACU continues to stay at the top of the NCAA, ranking fifth in team save percentage at .899. Bella Medrano ranks sixth individually with a .894 save percentage. Both statistics lead the UAC, as well as least goals against this season, as the Wildcats have only allowed seven goals through 10 games.Â
After four consecutive weeks with a Wildcat being awarded a UAC weekly honor, the team was not elected to the conference weekly awards after a 1-0-1 start to conference. The Wildcats will look to get back on top this week with each team in the conference playing only one game.
Sunday's match against UCA is scheduled to kick off at 1 p.m. at Elmer Gray Stadium and will stream on ACUSports.com.
