ATLANTA - Abilene Christian right-handed pitcher Dominick Reid was selected by the Chicago Cubs in the third round of the 2025 MLB Draft with the 90th overall pick on Sunday night.
Reid is the second-highest draftee in program history since the late Bill Gilbreth, an ACU Sports Hall of Famer, was taken with the 67th overall pick in the second round in 1969. Reid is the 16th draft pick in team history and is poised to become the seventh Wildcat in the past three seasons to sign with a Major League franchise.
In his lone season in Abilene following two years at Oklahoma State, Reid anchored the Wildcats' pitching staff as the rotation's Friday starter. Across 15 outings, he built a 6-3 record with a 3.26 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP and 112 strikeouts in 88 ⅓ innings, becoming the program's first pitcher in the Division I era to tally more than 100 punchouts in a season.
Reid held opponents to a .220 batting average, the best mark on the Wildcats' pitching staff, while also leading the team in ERA, WHIP, strikeouts and innings pitched. He paced Division I baseball with 66 punchouts via the changeup, per MLB.com.
The Little Elm, Texas product earned All-Western Athletic Conference First Team and American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings Central All-Region Second Team honors. Off the field, Reid, a sociology major, picked up Academic All-WAC and College Sports Communicators Academic All-District accolades.
Reid earned an invitation to June's MLB Draft Combine after guiding ACU to a 34-23 record and a share of the WAC regular season title, its first conference championship since 2021. The Wildcats capped the season with a run to the WAC Tournament championship game, with Reid garnering a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Reid opened ACU's tournament run by pitching a gem against eventual champion Utah Valley, tossing seven scoreless frames with 12 strikeouts and just three hits allowed. In his previous outing, Reid was named the WAC Pitcher of the Week after tallying nine punchouts in six shutout innings for a run-rule victory at California Baptist.

This IS & WILL continue to be a great ACU story—Dom was on a mission the minute he stepped on campus in Abilene & developed into a pro. He was THE best competitor on the field each time out!

My favorite part of the story is he was wearing a Jesus Won shirt the day he was drafted https://t.co/QCZa0rpILE
