SUGAR LAND - Fresh off its team championship at the inaugural West Texas Classic last week, No. 87 Abilene Christian women's golf will return to the course on Monday and Tuesday at the Riverbend Intercollegiate at Riverbend Country Club.
Houston Christian hosts the 16-team field, featuring Houston, New Mexico State, Prairie View A&M, A&M-Corpus Christi, Missouri State, Lamar, Long Island, East Texas A&M, UT Arlington, Odessa College and McLennan Community College. Western Athletic Conference programs UT Arlington, Tarleton State and Stephen F. Austin will also be competing.
Ryann Honea will look to build upon the individual title she captured at the Wildcats' first-ever home tournament, when she finished 2-under 138. She was named the Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Women's Golfer of the Week for the second time this season while jumping 40 spots to No. 59 in Clippd's individual rankings.
Honea won her fifth career individual crown and second in a row after tying for the top spot at the BGSU Women's Intercollegiate. ACU has finished in the top 10 in each of its six tournaments this season with at least two golfers placing in the top 30 individually.
Joining Honea in the Wildcats' lineup are Kate Pickrell, Sydney Williams, Julia Vollmer and Marissa Loya. Manon Guille will compete as an individual.
Pickrell had the best finish of her career at the West Texas Classic, tying for fourth place at 5-over 145. She fired an even-par 70 in the second round, tying for the lowest score.
Williams logged her second top-30 performance of the season, tying for 27th at 15-over 155. Freshmen Vollmer and Loya both tied for 11th at 9-over 149, as Vollmer improved by five strokes from one round to the next. Through five tournaments, she has yet to finish above 33rd place, while Loya has two top-15 finishes in three tournaments.
Guille joined Honea and Pickrell in the top 10 with an eighth-place showing at the West Texas Classic. Along with Honea, she was one of just two golfers to finish below par in either round. Guille had the second-most birdies with seven, pushing her into the top 10 for the third time in her career.
