ARLINGTON, Texas - Ryann Honea was named the Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Women's Golfer of the Week for the second time this season, the Western Athletic Conference announced Thursday. It's the third week in a row that an Abilene Christian women's golfer has received the honor.
Honea was recognized by the conference for the seventh time in her career after tying for fifth place at the "Mo" Morial Invitational in Bryan, Texas this week. She scored 4-over 220 for her fourth consecutive top-10 performance and her fifth top-five outing of the season. It's Honea's 15th career top-five effort and 19th top-10 placement.
The San Angelo, Texas product was named WAC Women's Golfer of the Week on March 26 after a runner-up finish at the PING ASU Invitational. Last week, Maddi Kamas earned the accolade with a tie for third place at the Coach Mo Classic.
No. 112 Honea landed in the top five at the "Mo" Morial for the second year in a row following last season's fourth-place showing. She was one of five golfers to score below par in the final round at 1-under 71 and rose three spots on the final day of action in a field featuring 10 top-100 programs.
A Wildcat has placed within the top five at ACU's last four events, with Honea responsible for three of them. She tied for ninth on par 3s at 1-over, drew for third on par 5s at 3-under and tied for ninth with 35 pars.
Honea and the Wildcats now turn their attention to the WAC Championship on April 20-22 at The Hills Golf Course at Stonebridge Ranch in McKinney, Texas.
