PHOENIX - No. 96 Abilene Christian women's golf faces a short turnaround as it heads into the PING/ASU Invitational at Papago Golf Club this weekend. Five days removed from wrapping up the Florida State Match Up, the Wildcats will head west to compete from Friday through Sunday with an 8 a.m. start on each day.
The 13-team field features five power conference opponents in host No. 9 Arizona State, No. 12 Northwestern, No. 21 Kansas, No. 25 UCLA and No. 34 California.
Western Athletic Conference foe No. 75 Grand Canyon is in the mix, as are No. 42 Pepperdine, No. 73 Tulsa, No. 93 Northern Arizona, No. 104 New Mexico, No. 122 New Mexico State and No. 167 Florida Atlantic.
Northwestern is the PING/ASU Invitational's two-time reigning champion, while New Mexico State's Emma Bunch returns as last year's individual co-champion at the par-72, 6,586-yard course.
ACU has met New Mexico State on three occasions this season, placing ahead of it in each respective tournament. The Wildcats competed with New Mexico at the Red Raider Invitational and saw Kansas win the team title at the White Sands Invitational.
The tournament presents an opportunity for ACU to rebound from a 13th place finish in Tallahassee, Fla. following three consecutive top-three finishes. No. 83 Ryann Honea and Sydney Williams lead the charge for the Wildcats after each tying for 48th place on the individual leaderboard at the Florida State Match Up. It marked the lowest finish of Honea's ACU career.
Julia Vollmer and Jiyu Han each return to action after they both tied for 56th place in their last time out, and Marissa Loya looks to build upon a 68th-place showing when she competes as an individual. Freshmen Vollmer and Loya aim to bounce back after recording the lowest finishes of their young careers at the Florida State Match Up.
Kate Pickrell will join the lineup for the first time since the Riverbend Intercollegiate on March 10-11, where she tied for 43rd place at 19-over 235.
Loya will get the Wildcats started on Friday at hole No. 1 at 8:36 a.m., followed by Han at No. 10 at 8:59 a.m. Vollmer, Pickrell, Williams and Honea will follow in respective nine-minute increments.
