Freshman Yuan Powers Wildcats in Collegiate Debut at Boilermaker Classic

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Abilene Christian freshman Kaylee Yuan shined in her collegiate debut to tie for eighth place through two rounds at the Boilermaker Classic on Monday. Yuan scored 1-over 145 at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex while the Wildcats placed 10th at 31-over 607.
ACU wraps up its season-opening tournament at 8 a.m. (CT) Tuesday with a shotgun start to the third and final round. The Wildcats began the day shooting 10-over 298 in the first round before closing the second round at 21-over 309. ACU is four strokes back of ninth-place Louisville and within 10 strokes of sixth-place host Purdue.
Yuan showed little growing pains in her first round at the college level, carding a 2-under 70 with three birdies, including on two of her final three holes, and just one hole over par. She added four birdies in a 3-over 75 second round.
The Joshua, Texas product tied for second in the field on par 4s at 2-under and drew for eighth on par 5s at 1-under. Yuan tied for second with only four bogeys.
Julia Vollmer followed in a tie for 36th place at 8-over 152. She logged two rounds of 4-over 76 and registered the Wildcats' lone eagle on the par-4 No. 8 in the second round. Vollmer notched a trio of birdies in the first round.
Alana Kutt tied for 49th place at 10-over 154 in her first day of action as a Wildcat. The Daytona State College transfer scored 5-over 77 in both rounds and totaled three birdies.
Jiyu Han and Kate Pickrell rounded out the ACU lineup in ties for 64th and 76th, respectively. Han had a couple birdies while shooting 14-over 158, while Pickrell logged a 16-over 160 with four holes under par.
