ABILENE - Several players from the ACU football team that produced the best season in the school's Division I era will showcase their skills during Monday's Pro Day with the hopes of continuing to play at the next level.
Record-setting running back Sam Hicks, receivers Blayne Taylor, Nehemiah Martinez I, and Trey Cleveland, and defensive back Izaiah Kelley are scheduled to take part in the workout.
Kayode Oladele, a 2023 ACU graduate, and two student-athletes from Division III Hardin-Simmons University are also on the list of participants.
Multiple NFL and Canadian Football League scouts are expected to attend. The event gives each athlete an opportunity to be seen by pro football personnel, and aid in their attempt to play professionally.
The event begins with the Wonderlic test -- the same cognitive ability assessment used at the NFL Combine -- and then moves into physical measurements such as height, weight and hand size.
Players will then perform a vertical jump and bench press lift followed by on-field drills at Anthony Field at Wildcat Stadium.
Forty-three former ACU football players have gone on to appear in the NFL, including recent ACU Sports Hall of Fame inductees Taylor Gabriel and Daryl Richardson.
Jack Gibbens, a linebacker who played at ACU from 2017-2020 before transferring to Minnesota, is the lone current ex-Wildcat in the NFL. Gibbens has played in 29 games over three seasons with the Tennessee Titans.
