Wildcats Notch Numerous Personal Records In Lubbock and Houston

LUBBOCK/HOUSTON - The Wildcats divided the team between the 2-day Jarvis Scott Open held at Texas Tech University and the Howie Ryan Invitational at the University of Houston. Both venues saw ACU athletes hitting personal records (PR's) in numerous events looking to move up the WAC Performance List. Highlights include:

Jarvis Scott Open – Day 1
  • The men's 60 hurdles produced 3 Wildcats (Miguel Hall, Kenan Reil, and Canaan Fairley) who qualified for the semi-finals in a field dotted with All-America performers. Topping this group for
  • ACU was Miguel Hall who just missed the finals, running a PR of 7.92 that propelled him to #3 on the ACU Top-10 All-Time and ranks him #5 on the WAC list.
  • In the women's 400, Ja'Dasia Sims ran a season best (SB) time of 56.15, which puts her #6 in the WAC. Ja'Kaylon Record ran a PR of 58.24 which places her #23 in the WAC.
  • Hannah Kasper ran her first collegiate 5000 run and her time of 18:26.96 ranks her #14 in the WAC.
  • The men's 5000 meter run featured freshman Andruw Villa running his first indoor collegiate race at that distance, finishing 3 rd in a time of 14:42.85 – with that time, he is ranked #3 in the WAC.
  • In that same race, Kevin Castruita ran a time of 14:51.61 – putting him #6 in the WAC; Zach Martin ran a PR of 15:27.94 – placing him #14 in the WAC; and freshman Carlos Cortez ran a time of 15:28.82, in his first collegiate 5000 meter run, ranking him #15 in the WAC.
  • Freshman Laya'Lapri Ratney competed for the first time in her collegiate career in the 60 hurdles and her time of 9.20 ranks her #23 in the WAC.

Jarvis Scott Open – Day 2
  • One of the highlights of the day came from Donovan Ramirez, who is coming back from a 2024 season that was scuttled by injury. Donovan's jump of 49-1.75/14.98m in the triple jump moves him into the #10 spot on the ACU All-Time Top-10 list and ranks him #4 in the WAC.
  • On the runway for the women's triple jump, senior Luize Velmere jumped an indoor PR of 39- 9.25/12.12m – her first mark of the year, which places her #3 in the WAC.
  • Ethan Krause ran a PR of 21.51 in the 200, putting him #11 in the WAC.
  • Peyton Bornstein had a SB run of 10:39.57 in the 3000 meter run, netting her a spot just inside the WAC top 25.
  • The women's 4x400 relay improved to #2 on the WAC performance list with a time of 3:47.22. The relay was composed of Ja'Dasia Sims out of the blocks (57.19), freshman Emma Santoro running the 2 nd leg in a time of 55.10; Ja'Kaylon Record with a split time of 58.52; and anchored by Jess Reyes, with a spit of 56.38.
  • The men's 4x400 relay ran the best 4x400 time since 2020 with a 3:11.89, moving into the #2 spot on the WAC performance list. The foursome saw Kenan Reil lead off with a split of 47.46; Cooper Goggans running a 47.84; Ethan Krause joining the foursome for the first time with a split of 48.46; and Canaan Fairley anchoring with a split of 48.25.

Howie Ryan Invitational
  • Freshman Mariana Van Dyk set PR's in both the shot put (39-8.5/12.10m) and weight throw (48-3.25/14.71m) – now ranked #8 in the SP and #11 in the WT in the WAC. 
  • Kailey Roskop threw a SB of 54-4.75/16.58m in the WT – missing her PR by 1 centimeter and moving her up the WAC performance list to #4.
  • Avery Myrick tossed the weight throw to a new PR with a distance of 46-11.5/14.00m and a ranking of #14 in the WAC.
  • Redshirt freshman Sterling Glenn hit a big PR in the weight throw with a throw of 50-2/15.29m to put her at #8 in the event to go with her current ranking of #5 in the shot put.
  • On the men's side Sutton Welch again extended his PR in the weight throw to 55-11.75/17.06m, moving him up to #4 in the WAC.
These 2 meets were the last meets for ACU in the regular season. The WAC Indoor Championship will take place on February 28-March 1, in The Podium, located in Spokane, WA.
