ABILENE - Abilene Christian women's basketball inked a pair of players from the high school ranks on National Signing Day on Wednesday as part of its 2026 signing class. Texas natives Alexa Lane and Salena Carrasco officially put pen to paper to join the Wildcats.
Lane heads to the Big Country from North Lamar High School in Paris, Texas, where she is a multi-sport athlete in varsity basketball and volleyball. A 5-foot-10 guard on the hardwood, she earned All-Region honors from the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches and was named the District 14-4A-II Co-MVP in 2024-25. Lane garnered First Team All-District accolades as a sophomore in 2023-24.
"Alexa is another long wing player that we found to join our team," ACU head coach Julie Goodenough said. "She's a very good three-point shooter as well as a crafty finisher in the paint. Alexa is tough as nails, that kind of player that'll take charges and dive on the floor after loose balls.
"She's played multiple positions, which will help a lot in our offense. She has point guard experience as well as shooting guard experience and really good court vision. I think she's going to be a fun player for ACU fans to watch. We're so excited to welcome Alexa Lane to our family!"
Lane guided North Lamar to a 79-27 record through her first three years of high school, leading the Pantherettes to the third round of the postseason each time. They have built a perfect 29-0 mark in district play.
Lane was North Lamar's leading scorer as a junior, averaging 14.2 points, 8.0 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game. She put up 11.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.6 steals and 3.1 blocks per game as a sophomore.
"Alexa is the most talented player I have had the opportunity to coach," North Lamar coach Brittney Tisdell said. "She is second to none in basketball IQ, a great ball handler and shooter. She works hard to be the best player she can be. Her leadership qualities have developed into the highest level we have had here at North Lamar. We are excited to watch her excel at the highest level of basketball."
Lane was named her district's Offensive Player of the Year in volleyball this past season and earned Most Valuable Hitter honors in 2024. She is a National Honor Society member and was tabbed Academic All-District in each of the past two years.
"I chose ACU because I loved the atmosphere I felt when I was there and the coaches have been great to me," Lane said. "Most importantly, I want to grow my relationship and faith in the Lord and I know that Abilene Christian University is a perfect opportunity for me to do so."
Carrasco is a 5-foot-8 guard from Boswell High School in Fort Worth, Texas. She was a driving force for the Pioneers last season as they captured Texas' 6A Division II state title, bringing down eight rebounds, four assists and a steal in the championship game.
"We've known Salena and her family for about three years now," Goodenough said. "She has attended our summer camps as well as some of our unofficial on-campus visits. We just love Salena as a person and as a player. She's coming off of a state championship season at her high school. I know that she's really excited about this senior year, leading the defending state champs.
"She's already started the season off really well. In her first game as a senior, she scored 38 points, and everybody knows that we like players that can score. Salena will come in as a point guard for us. A very good distributor, she's kind of a distribute-it-first-type player, but she can go get a basket in the paint or shoot threes at any point. Salena is a very good student, and I think that she'll be an awesome teammate in the locker room. We are so thankful that Salena is going to be a Wildcat!"
Carrasco has earned First Team All-District and Academic All-District distinction in each of her first three high school seasons. She registered 8.3 points, 3.1 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game as a junior in 2024-25 as Boswell built a 39-2 record.
The Pioneers reached the postseason's regional final in 2023-24 with a 35-6 record as Carrasco averaged 14.0 points, 3.3 boards and 2.8 steals per game. She recorded 8.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.3 steals per contest as a freshman in 2022-23.
"Salena is the type of player that coaches dream of," Boswell coach Jeffrey Chatman said. "She is a constant learner and leads by example. Salena embodies all that it means to be a high-level student-athlete. Anything Salena is involved in, she just makes it better. Show me a program with a Salena Carrasco and I will show you a super successful program."
