Woodson Records Double-Double as Wildcats Drop Overtime Thriller to Lancers

ABILENE - Erin Woodson recorded her second double-double in her last three games as Abilene Christian women's basketball suffered a 76-69 overtime loss to California Baptist at Moody Coliseum on Thursday night. Woodson dropped 15 points and brought down 10 rebounds while matching her season high with a trio of three-pointers.
The Wildcats close out the regular season versus UT Arlington at 2 p.m. Saturday at the College Park Center. ACU then heads to Las Vegas for the Western Athletic Conference Tournament from March 11-14.
ACU rallied to take a one-point edge going into the fourth quarter after trailing by five at halftime. The Wildcats couldn't hold onto a nine-point fourth-quarter lead as the Lancers hit a three-pointer to tie the game at 63 with two minutes to go in regulation. Both teams kept each other scoreless for the remainder of the fourth quarter, with Payton Hull drawing a CBU offensive foul with three seconds to play.
Woodson, the reigning Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Player of the Week, added three assists and one steal in 43 minutes. It's her third career double-double. Hull led ACU with 18 points, 14 of which came in the second half. She connected on three shots from beyond the arc to go with six rebounds, four assists and two steals while playing the entire 45 minutes.
On "Bre Night," senior Breanna Davis matched her season high with 12 points and tied her career high with five made field goals. She hit a couple of three-pointers and dished out three assists. Emma Troxell neared a double-double of her own with nine points and 10 boards. Jazmyn Stone and Natalia Chavez totaled 13 points and nine rebounds.
The Wildcats jumped to an early 19-14 lead through the first quarter as Woodson and Troxell tallied five points apiece. After the Lancers led by as much as six, ACU mounted a 10-0 run to swing momentum back in its favor.
The Lancers came to life in the second quarter, limiting ACU to nine points while sinking eight of 16 field goal attempts. CBU took a 33-28 lead into the break after Davis hit a driving jump shot at the second quarter buzzer.
ACU came to life in the third quarter thanks to 11 points from Hull. The Wildcats scored nine points in a row to lead by as much as four, but the Lancers responded with an 8-0 run to grab a four-point advantage. ACU battled back to go ahead by a point entering the final period.
Six Wildcats scored in the fourth quarter, with seven straight points and a Stone three-pointer putting them up 58-49 with 6:10 to play. An 11-2 CBU rally knotted the score at 60 with 2:41 remaining, then both teams traded three-pointers to send the game to overtime, tied at 63.
Neither squad scored for the first two minutes of overtime before a pair of Woodson free throws put ACU up one with 2:13 on the clock. From there, the Lancers caught fire with 10 points in a row to put the game on ice. Davis recorded the final points for the Wildcats in what may be her final game at Moody Coliseum.
