HUTCHINSON, Kan. - Abilene Christian women's golf closes out its fall slate at the University of Oklahoma Intercollegiate presented by PDI on Monday and Tuesday at Prairie Dunes Country Club. The Wildcats aim for their third consecutive top-three performance to end the season.
Teams will play two rounds Monday with a 9 a.m. shotgun start at the par-70, 6,005-yard course, which ranked 25th in Golf Digest's latest rankings of America's 100 greatest golf courses. Tuesday's third and final round will commence with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
ACU joins a 14-team field featuring seven power conference programs in host Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Florida, Baylor, Nebraska, Iowa and Kansas State. North Texas, Sam Houston, Tulsa, Oral Roberts, Eastern Michigan and Wichita State round out the competition.
Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Florida, Baylor and Kansas State reached last season's NCAA Championships.
ACU will travel with a lineup of Ryann Honea, Maddi Kamas, Julia Vollmer, Jiyu Han and Marissa Loya.
The Wildcats are on the heels of back-to-back top-three performances, placing second at The Lady Clerico on Sept. 15-16 and tying for third at the Red Raider Invitational on Sept. 23-24. Four golfers placed in the top 20 on the individual leaderboard in the team's last time out in Lubbock, Texas.
ACU has been largely powered by the work of reigning Western Athletic Conference Co-Golfer of the Year Honea, who has begun her year with three top-15 showings. She was named the September Jersey Mike's A Sub Above WAC Golfer of the Month for her efforts, which included an 11-under 205 individual title at The Lady Clerico.
Honea tied for third at the Boilermaker Classic on Sept. 1-2 and drew for 12th at the Red Raider Invitational, where Kamas led the Wildcats in eighth place. It marked her second top-15 outing in a row after she placed 11th at The Lady Clerico.
Vollmer has surged to begin her season with top-10 performances in her first two complete tournaments. The sophomore tied for third at 5-under 211 while competing as an individual at The Lady Clerico, then tied for ninth at the Red Raider Invitational.
Han impressed in her first appearance of the season in Lubbock, tying for 19th, while Marissa Loya placed 73rd. In Loya's first outing in Bartlesville, Okla., she landed in 43rd.
