ABILENE - The ACU baseball program recently announced it will be going on a mission trip to the Dominican Republic later this fall. ACU will partner with SCORE International, which will facilitate their stay and activities through a baseball outreach program.
The Wildcats will be in the Dominican Republic from Oct. 22-27 and each member of the baseball program will take part in community service, including serving at a local orphanage, feeding a village and interacting with local youth at an outreach event.
"We want to be known as a team that is selfless and looks for opportunities to serve others," said head coach Rick McCarty. "That being said, we are constantly looking for different ways to utilize our spiritual gifts to do that.
The opportunity to physically serve in another country also has many benefits for the baseball team to grow spiritually as individuals and as a team. To fulfill this mission, the team's activities include:
-
Chapel Time: Discuss the Gospel and reflect on our mission and program values.
-
Serving at a Local Orphanage: Engage with and support the local community.
-
Community Outreach: Teach baseball and interact with local youth.
-
Feeding a Village: Deliver food to families in need.
-
Athletic Competition: Compete against two local teams to build cross-cultural connections through our shared sport.
-
Life Skills: Gain real-life experiences through cultural exchange.
"This mission trip aligns perfectly with our program and ACU's mission to foster Christian service and leadership throughout the world," McCarty said. "It provides an unparalleled opportunity for each member of our program to grow personally and spiritually while making a meaningful impact in the communities we visit. I do not doubt that this will be the signature piece of our student-athletes' experience at ACU."
The Wildcats will also compete in two games against local teams during the trip.
A generous gift has helped fund a portion of the mission trip, but the baseball program is still working to secure additional funding to cover remaining expenses.
You can provide assistance by sponsoring a player or donating to the trip's general fund.
The baseball team believes this mission trip to the Dominican Republic will not only transform the lives of the people they serve, but also shape the future of ACU's players and coaches by fostering a deeper sense of purpose, unity, and commitment to serving others both at home and abroad.
