ABILENE — The women's golf program will begin their fall portion of the 2024-25 schedule on Monday as they head to West Lafayette, Indiana for the Boilermaker Classic.
"We are excited to get things rolling for year two," said head coach Rob Bennett. "Our team has looked strong so far in qualifying and I think we have a good opportunity to perform well at Purdue. I am really encouraged by how our returners have improved over the summer and by how our freshmen are playing right now.
Recap of Last Year's Historic Season
Coach Bennett and his program have big shoes to fill to follow up the program's historic first season in 2023-24.
In the program's first year of existence, the Wildcats won three tournaments, the A-Ga-Ming Invitational, the HCU Huskies Intercollegiate and the ORU Spring Invitational. The Wildcats also saw five additional second-place finishes last season, including the WAC Championship.
The 'Cats saw four individual champions throughout play last season as well. Then senior Delaney Martin earned a win at the BGSU Women's Intercollegiate, and returning junior Ryann Honea earned three individual titles, including the WAC Individual Championship. With the win at the WAC Tournament, Honea claimed a spot as an individual qualifier for the NCAA Tournament, where she made an appearance at the Bryan Regional.
Meet the Wildcats for the 2024-25 Season
As for the Wildcats, five from last year's roster return while three join the roster with hopes of earning a WAC team title in April. Returners include Honea, hoping to defend her WAC individual championship, senior Sydney Williams, sophomore Jiyu Han, sophomore Kate Pickrell and sophomore Manon Guille.
The Wildcats' three additions are freshmen from across the state of Texas. Those freshmen include Jasmine Do from Bridgeland High School in Cypress, Marissa Loya from Reagan High School located in San Antonio and Julia Vollmer from Alamo Heights High School also located in San Antonio.
"Everyone came in ready to go," Bennett said. "We have an improved, deeper team from last year and because of that I think we will show everyone that ACU women's golf belongs in any field on any day all season long."
