ARLINGTON, Texas - Abilene Christian's Maddi Kamas earned Jersey Mike's A Sub Above Women's Golfer of the Week honors from the Western Athletic Conference, the WAC announced Thursday. Kamas delivered her best performance as a Wildcat at the Coach Mo Classic this week, tying for third place at a season-best 3-under 213.
It's the second week in a row that an ACU golfer has been recognized by the conference after Ryann Honea was tabbed the WAC Women's Golfer of the Week following a runner-up placement at the PING ASU Invitational.
Kamas notched her third top-10 outing of the season in St. Augustine, Fla. and finished one stroke back of the individual champions. After shooting an even-par 72 and 1-over 73 in the first two rounds, she closed with a season-low 4-under 68 in the final round. Kamas shot at or below par on each hole with four birdies to jump five spots.
The Ardmore, Okla. native tied for seventh in the field with 11 birdies and paced the Wildcats with just six bogeys. She shot within the top 10 on par-3 and par-4 holes.
Kamas is in her first season at ACU following four years at Oklahoma City University, where she was an NAIA All-American and captured the Sooner Athletic Conference individual title each season.
Kamas and the Wildcats wrap up the regular season at Texas A&M's "Mo" Morial Invitational from Monday to Wednesday at Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas. The WAC Championship is set for April 20-22 at The Hills Golf Course at Stonebridge Ranch in McKinney, Texas.
