Box Score ABILENE – Abilene Christian used an explosive third inning and evened its series with Utah Valley with an 8-6 win on Friday.
The Wildcats broke a scoreless tie in the third with eight runs on eight hits – all after the inning began with two strikeouts.
Zandt Payne walked and later scored on a wild pitch for the game's first run.
Gino D'Alessio posted an RBI single and
DJ Van Atten ripped a two-run double for a 4-0 lead.
Maddox Miesse,
Benjamin Greer and
Reese Borho added RBI singles and
Miller Ladusau was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded for the 8-0 lead.
Utah Valley scored four runs in the fourth and added a run in both the fifth and sixth innings.
Chandler Benson (2-0) picked up the win in relief and
Caden Greanead struck out three batters in two hitless innings to pick up his first save.
The Wildcats had 10 hits, led by D'Alession and Greer with two each. Ladusau, Miesse,
Garrett Williams, Van Atten,
Aaron Staehely and Borho had one each.
The teams play for the series win at 12:05 p.m. on Saturday.
