Wildcats Head West for WAC Clashes

ABILENE – Abilene Christian heads west this weekend for matches on Thursday at 6 p.m. (Arizona time) at Grand Canyon and Saturday at noon (Pacific) at California Baptist.
 
The Wildcats leave Texas with a 1-1 conference record and are 6-8 on the season.
 
Grand Canyon is 9-4 this season, including a 2-0 record in the WAC. CBU also is 9-4 and 2-0 in the league.
 
ACU Storylines
 
FORKED ATTACK:
ACU has a four-pronged attack with Ashli Edmiston (2.93 kills per set), Bryley Steinhilber (2.62), Braden Bossier (2.75) and Breanna Box (2.55) all averaging better than two kills per set. Alexis Strong is not far off of that pace at 1.66. Edmiston has stepped up her game in WAC matches, averaging 3.8 per set and Bossier is at 3.06. Steinhilber had 17 kills last year against GCU and 18 against CBU.
 
HITTING FOR ACCURACY: Breanna Box and Braden Bossier lead the team in attack percentage, hitting at .344 and .339 respectively. In WAC matches this season, Bossier is at .372 and Box at .371.
 
GUFFY ON THE ASSIST: Madeline Guffy averages 8.83 assists per set this season to lead the team. Guffy rolled off 11.25 for the Wildcats in their two Western Athletic Conference matches last week.
 
COMING UP ACES: Madeline Guffy has 22 aces to lead the Wildcats this season. Sara Carrizales and Abby Christian have 17 each. Guffy had six aces last week against WAC teams.
 
BB BB BLOCKS: Breanna Box and Braden Bossier are 1-2 in blocks this season for the Wildcats. Box leads at 0.62 and Bossier gets 0.58 per set. Bossier was in on seven blocks and Box got four in last season's match against Grand Canyon.
 
DIGGITY: Sara Carrizales leads the Wildcats with 4.09 digs per set. She was steady against the WAC last weekend at 4.13.

Scouting the Lopes
  • Grand Canyon got sweeps last week of Southern Utah and Utah Tech
  • Tatum Parrott leads the team with 4.12 kills per set. She had 19 kills last season in the loss at ACU.
  • Klaire Mitchell averages 9.98 assists per game. She had 42 assists in the match last season against the Wildcats. She also has a team-leading 21 aces.
  • Alissa Uhlenhop had five blocks last season in the ACU match and leads the Lopes with 1.07 blocks per set.
  • Tatum Thomas averages a team-leading 4.26 digs per set and had 25 last season against the Wildcats.

  • California Baptist is 9-4 overall and 2-0 in the Western Athletic Conference after sweeping Utah Tech and taking Southern Utah in four sets last week.

  • Leah Pease averages 5.72 assists per set and had 39 against ACU last season.
