Wildcats Thwart Vaqueros' Upset Bid

EDINBURGH – After dropping the doubles point, Abilene Christian got things firing in singles for a 5-2 win at Texas-Rio Grande Valley on Saturday.
Daniel Morozov and Mihaly Deli got a win at second doubles but the Vaqueros won the other two lines to take a 1-0 lead into singles.
After falling behind 2-0, Savan Chhabra and Dario Kmet scored wins at Nos. 4 and 1 singles to even the match and Cesar Barranquero delivered the first ACU lead with a win on the third line.
Mihaly Deli clinched the win with a straight-set win at No. 6 and Benjamin McDonald capped the day with a victory at fifth singles.
"We missed a ton of opportunities to close out in doubles," said ACU Head Coach Juan Nunez. "We were down 2-0, but for only five or 10 minutes so we never got to feel like we were in trouble. We had a good practice yesterday and we were confident in who we are and how we can play."
The Wildcats finish off the regular season at home on Sunday, April 16, hosting New Mexico State.
"We're 3-1 in conference and we have our Senior Day for Savan next weekend," Nunes said. "We hope to close it out with a win and get the second seed and play one less match at the conference tournament."
