
Wildcats Crush Cardinals in Saturday’s Match

ABILENE — The ACU men's tennis team (4-5) defeated Lamar University (5-8) 6-1 on Saturday at the Judi and Cecil Eager Tennis Pavilion. The Wildcats secured the doubles point and won five of six singles matches.
ACU captured the doubles point with victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Jorge Aza / Merse Deli claimed a 6-4 win against the Cardinals on court two. Dennis Dutiné / Tomas Quesada followed with a decisive 6-2 victory on court three. The match at No. 1 doubles was left unfinished with Luis Jose Nakamine / Ethan Scribner leading 6-5.
In singles play, the Wildcats extended their lead with Dutiné's straight-sets win at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1. Aza added another point for the Wildcats at No. 5 singles, defeating his opponent 7-5, 6-2. Lamar's only point came from a three-set victory at No. 2 singles, where Quesada fell 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Nakamine clinched the match for Abilene Christian at No. 1 singles with a hard-fought win, 6-4, 3-6, 6-0. Deli gave the Wildcats another win at No. 3 singles, battling back for a 3-6, 6-4, 7-5 win. Scribner concluded the singles lineup with a 7-5, 5-7, 10-5 victory at No. 6 singles, sealing a 6-1 overall win for Abilene Christian.

The Wildcats' next match will be down in Waco on March 10 as they take on the Baylor Bears, who are currently 7-5 but have three more matches before taking on the Cats.
