ACU drops both in doubleheader at UTRGV

EDINBURG, Texas – The ACU baseball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday in a doubleheader at UTRGV, falling 8-4 in the opener and 2-1 in 10 innings in game two. The Wildcats (25-14, 10-8 WAC) trailed 7-1 after seven innings in the opening game, and the rally came up short despite scoring three runs in the final two innings. Game two featured tremendous pitching as the game went scoreless through nine innings. ACU scored one in the top of the 10th, only to see the Vaqueros (22-16, 9-9 WAC) score two to win it in the bottom half of the inning. UTRGV takes the series from ACU with the doubleheader win, a doubleheader that happened due to forecasted bad weather in the area on Sunday.

How It Happened - Game 1
- After a pair of scoreless innings between starters Breck Eichelberger and Angelo Cabral, UTRGV scored a run in the third, fourth, and fifth innings to grab a 3-0 lead. All three runs scored were rbi-singles, and ACU faced a deficit.
- Grayson Tatrow launched the first of three home runs in the game for ACU, all solo shots. UTRGV then answered with a solo home run of its own in the bottom of the sixth inning, then added another run on a Wildcat error in the field to go up 5-1.
- The Vaqueros added two more in the home seventh on a single and a throwing error by catcher Tanner Tweedt. The home was pulling away, 7-1.
- Logan Britt sent a solo home run over the wall in left in the top of the eighth, then RGV's Jacob Sanchez did the exact same in the bottom half of the inning.
- Tweedt homered in the top of the ninth and Garrett Williams followed with an rbi-single to score Holden Rook, but it was not enough as UTRGV held on 8-4.

How It Happened - Game 2
- It was all pitching in the back half of the twin bill. Austin Glaze got the start for the 'Cats and tossed 5.0 scoreless innings, while UTRGV starter Colten Davis went 8.0 scoreless in his start. Max Huffling went two scoreless innings, and Blake Anderson got the game to extra innings with a pair of scoreless frames as well.
- ACU went to bat in the top of the 10th, and Miller Ladusau led the frame off with a single. Maddox Miesse then doubled down the left field line to score Ladusau, the first run of the game. The next three batters were retired, leaving an all-important run at second base headed to the bottom half.
- UTRGV then answered with a leadoff single, a sacrifice bunt to move the runner, and two batters later, an rbi-single from Brandon Pimentel to tie the game. Pinch hitter Steven Lancia then stepped in and delivered with a walkoff single to win the game. UTRGV pulled off the sweep with a two-run 10th.

Saturday Stat Pack
- Williams, Tatrow, and Tweedt all had two hits in the opening game, while Ladusau put together a two-hit night in the second game.
- Eichelberger went 4.2 innings in the start in game one, allowing three runs on eight hits with a pair of strikeouts. Sam Berberich went 0.1 innings, Luke Krkovski went 1.1 innings and Adam Byrd threw 1.2 innings in relief.
- ACU left seven on base in game one and five on base in game two.
- Max Huffling threw two scoreless innings in game two, while Anderson took the loss (4-4), allowing the two runs in the bottom of the 10th. Zach Smith was on the mound when UTRGV walked off in the 10th.
- Tatrow's home run was his team-leading 12th blast of the year, while Britt's was hit 10th of the season. Tweedt's homer was his eighth of the season.
