The Wildcats (1-0)
- ACU took care of business in the opener, defeating Lamar 28-14 at Wildcat Stadium behind 25 first downs and 444 yards of total offense.
- Arkansas transfer Kendall Catalon was a sparkplug for the Purple and White, going for 119 yards and a score on seven receptions while adding a 30-yard touchdown on his lone rush of the day.
- 14 different Wildcats recorded a tackle in Week 1, including four tackles for a loss. Long snapper Dustin Inness came away with the only turnover of the game, taking advantage of a muffed punt from Lamar.
- The ACU defense is ranked #1 in the nation in first down defense (23%), and the Cardinals never made it into the red zone last week.
The Panthers (1-0)
- PVAMU managed to score 40 points and pull off a 17-point victory without completing a pass last week, as three different players rushed for over a hundred yards and a score. The Panthers went to the ground for 63 of their 70 offensive plays in the Southwestern Athletic Conference win over Texas Southern.
- Jaden Stewart led the way offensively, racking up 119 yards and two touchdowns on 22 attempts, while Ahmad Antoine was on his heels with 115 yards and a score on 24 tries. Quarterback Trazon Connley added 109 of his own on just eight carries but found his way into the endzone twice.
What to Watch For
- Kobe Clark finished the 2021 campaign ACU's leaders in nearly every receiving category, and he has picked up where he left off. His touchdown grab last week gives him a score in four of his last five games, and he has cleared the century mark in yardage in two of those four.
The Series
- The Wildcats and Panthers have met three times previously, and ACU has won all three times.
- Last time the two teams met, ACU came away with a 65-45 victory in Prairie View. That game featured 1,264 combined yards of offense, 63 first downs and 19 kickoffs.
- Quarterback John David Baker was stellar, completing 31 of 42 pass attempts for 485 yards and four scores.
- Charcandrick West's picked up 151 yards and four scores of his own on the ground, doing so on just 13 carries.
