'Cats take series from Lamar in high-scoring affair

BEAUMONT, Texas – Senior Colton Eager tallied three hits, four players drove in two runs each, and the ACU baseball team took the series from the Lamar Cardinals on Sunday, winning the rubber match 11-8. The Wildcats (15-12, 7-5 WAC) used a pair of four-run innings in a come-from-behind effort to beat the Cardinals (16-12, 7-5 WAC) and tie them up in the league standings. ACU trailed 4-0 and 6-4 before rattling off seven-straight runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to pull away 11-6. Lamar tacked on two in the eighth, but Tanner Riley locked it down in the ninth to earn the series win.

How It Happened
- Lamar used a four-run first inning to knock out starter Austin Glaze, and ACU was playing catch up right from the get-go
- ACU evened things up in the top of third inning. It started with Mitchell Dickson driving in Hunter Gieser with a double to right center, and the inning blossomed when Eager tripled into right center field to score both Dickson and Grayson Tatrow. Eager would eventually score on a passed ball to tie the game, 4-4.
- Lamar got a run back in the bottom of the third, and tacked on one more in the fourth to lead 6-4.
- Tanner Tweedt stepped up to the plate in a pinch-hit situation, and drove in two runs with a single through the left side to tie the game at 6-6 in the top of the fifth.
- ACU's second four-run inning came in the sixth. Bash Randle singled into left field to to score Dickson, and Miller Ladusau followed with a double down the left field line to score Eager. The lead was 8-6, and the 'Cats weren't done.
- Bryson Hill singled to left field to score both Randle and Ladusau, and the lead ballooned out to 10-6.
- At that point, Carter Sells had taken over on the mound before giving way to Drake Boggan. ACU was doing its part by holding Lamar without a run from the fifth inning all the way to the eighth, and the offense helped out a little more in the seventh.
- Randle added to hit RBI total with a sacrifice fly to score Gieser, and ACU led 11-6.
- Lamar scored two in the eighth, but that was it, as Riley locked it down to prevail 11-8.
