RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Lily Foster guided the ACU defense to stellar play in the Wildcats' tie with California Baptist on Sunday afternoon. ACU (4-6-4, 0-4-3 WAC) was unable to put the ball in the back of the net, but the defense did its job to preserve the scoreless tie to earn a point in the WAC standings. ACU closes out the long, three-week, four-game road trip with a tie to get their third point in WAC play.
"[It was an] outstanding defensive performance today by our back line," said head coach Casey Wilson. "Lily Foster was outstanding. She played one of her very best games. And from [McCarly] Holloman, [Faith] Husbenet, [Ellen] Joss, [Hannah] Gage, [Jillian] Beck, and [Macie] Stephens, it was a great effort. We battled against a solid team on the road and got a result."
The Numbers
- California Baptist led 19-10 in shot attempts, and 8-4 in shots placed on goal.
- ACU and CBU tied 4-4 in corner kicks earned, and neither team could convert off them.
- Lily Foster tallied eight saves in net, the second-highest total of the season (12 in the season opener at North Texas).
- Offensively, Macie Stephens, Jordan Michie, and Chayse Thorn all led the way with two shot attempts apiece.
- Four defenders, Stephens, Joss, McCarly Holloman, and Hannah Gage, all played 90 minutes Sunday.
- Sunday marks the fourth tie of the season for ACU, the most in a single season in program history. A big part of that is the new rule this season abolishing overtime in the regular season.
Up Next
- The Wildcats return to the friendly confines of Elmer Gray Stadium for two pivotal home games. ACU hosts Utah Valley next Friday, Oct. 21 at 7 p.m., and then hosts Seattle U on Sunday, Oct. 23 at 12 p.m. Friday is Youth Club Night, while Sunday is the annual Pink Game. Both games will air on WAC International.
