STILLWATER, Okla. - Senior Irene Rono recorded a Oklahoma State-course PR at Saturday's Weis-Crockett Invitational, placing eighth of 236 runners with a time of 20:53.8 - a 40 second improvement from her last outing here, when she clocked a 21:33.3 at the NCAA Championships (March 2021).
This race was Rono and the Wildcats' first 6K of the season as she pushed her fall 2022 streak of top-10 finishes to four.
Cowgirl freshman Billah Jepkirui led all runners with a 20:15.3 followed by Cal Baptist's Yasna Petrova (20:22.3) and Liberty's Calli Doan (20:32.8). Washington State's Alaina Stone Boggs (20:37.7) and CBU's Greta Karinauskaite (20:38.4) rounded out the top five.
Rono will again face this CBU duo in two weeks when the Wildcats head to Stephen F. Austin for the WAC Championships.
As a team, ACU's women placed 22nd of 26 teams with 564 points, topping Oklahoma (575), Saint Louis (694), Little Rock (753) and Oral Roberts (764). The Sooners beat the Wildcats earlier this month at the Chile Pepper, 152-297.
CBU beat the host Cowgirls for first-place honors, 50-76 as all five Lancers placed among the top 20.
On the men's side, ACU totaled 746 points led by Levi Chambers' 91st place 8K time of 25:02.4.
Montana State won the men's team title with 62 points, edging CBU by one point. Butler was third with 97 points.
