2023 Cross Country Roster
Biography
2022-2023: Cross Country - competed in all 6 XC meets during the season. Finished the season by placing 38th in the WAC Conference meet and 71st in the South Central Region meet – the #2 ACU finisher in both races. Indoors - placed 17th in the Pittsburg State Inv 3K and 13th in the TTU Matador Qualifier in the 800, before finishing the indoor season by getting 19th in the mile and running on the 8th place Distance Medley Relay – running the leadoff 1200-meter leg. Outdoors - won the Oliver Jackson Twilight Steeplechase and finished 5th in the Bobcat Inv Steeple, before finishing 10th in the WAC Championships in the Steeple.
2021-2022: Cross Country – Placed 52nd in the WAC championship and 91st at the South Central Regional championship in Waco, after opening the season with a 7th place finish in the Naimadu Clasic. Indoors - at the WAC championship, Maxwel placed 9th in the 800 and 24th in the 3k, as well as getting 9th in the Corky Classic 3k earlier in the season. Outdoors - placed 10th in the steeplechase and 14th in the 1500. Also placed 27th in the Bryan Clay Inv steeplechase with a PR time of 9:07.52.
2020-2021: Cross Country – finished 24th in the SLC championship. Indoors – in the SLC championship, placed 11th in the mile and 15th in the 3k (with a PR time of 8:42.72), plus scoring in the meet by running the anchor 1600-meter leg on the 6th place distance medley relay. This season was a redshirt year for all athletes due to the pandemic. Outdoors – placed 2nd in the Steeplechase at both the Wes Kittley Inv and Baylor’s Michael Johnson Inv, plus winning the 1500 at the Wes Kittley Inv and the Oliver Jackson Twilight. At the SLC meet, he would finish 5th in the Steeplechase, 7th in the 1500, and 18th in the 5k.
Before ACU: running for Vincennes University in Vincennes, IN, Maxwel placed 7th in the NJCAA steeplechase in 2019. He also placed 10th in the NJCAA indoor nationals in the 800 in 2020.
Personal: His parents are Emmanuel Koech and Evelynne Cherono. Maxwel has also been active as a volunteer for Kenya Red Cross, plus Meal on Wheels and Camp Able in Abilene. He has also appeared on the Dean’s List at both Vincennes College and ACU. He is a Nursing major at ACU and will graduate in December, 2023.
