ABILENE – The ACU football team overcame a slow first quarter on Saturday night to defeat University of Texas Permian Basin 34-9 and improve to 2-0 at home this season. The Wildcats hit the road this weekend for the second time this, heading to Beaumont to take on Lamar.

The matchup will not count toward the WAC standings, and it will be the final non-conference game of the season for Abilene Christian.

ACU
- Abilene Christian scored three times in the final 60 seconds of the second quarter against UTPB and did so in a variety of ways. Kobe Clark caught a 16-yard touchdown pass with a minute left until the break, Jordan Paup returned an interception for his first career touchdown and a blocked punt allowed Blair Zepeda to add three more points with a 26-yard field goal in the waning seconds of the half.
- Running back Tyrese White overtook the team lead in rushing on Saturday night, racking up 103 yards and a touchdown on 19 carries. White is the first ACU player with 100+ rushing yards in a game since quarterback Sema'J Davis put up 150 against Nicholls on Oct. 26, 2019.
- Clark continues to be a reliable target for quarterback Stone Earle, as Clark's nine receptions on Saturday moved him into sole possession on ACU's career list with 160. He is just six catches shy of Arthur Culpepper (1983-86), and he has hauled in eight touchdowns in his last seven games dating back to last season.
- The Wildcat defense finally had the outing they were looking for last week, forcing three fumbles to go with two interceptions and the aforementioned punt block. Eight different ACU defenders were credited with at least a partial tackle for a loss, while six Wildcats recorded a quarterback hurry.
- Jordan Paup was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after recording three tackles, a sack, and the pick-six.

Lamar
- The Cardinals are coming off a 17-10 overtime road win against Northern Colorado on Saturday, improving to 2-1 on the young season behind a strong rushing attack led by sophomore Chaz Ward.
- Senior Desmond Veals came up with a huge third down stop in the overtime period, sacking the UNC quarterback for 16-yard loss to force fourth and long, and Jaymond Jackson came up with another sack on the following play to end the game and give the Cardinals the win.
- Cardinal kicker Bailey Giffen has been huge so far this season, as he has yet to miss a field goal after drilling the 26-yarder to get Lamar to OT on Saturday night. His season-long was a 42-yarder against North American in the first week of the season, just seven shy of his career-best against McNeese in 2019.
- Ward came away with 77 of Lamar's 202 rushing yards, which made up nearly 70% of the Cardinals' total offense for the game. With an offense centered around the triple-option, Lamar has rushed the ball more times than anyone in the WAC so far this fall, as they are averaging more than 45 attempts per game.
