AUSTIN – A five-run first inning sparked the No. 3 Texas Longhorns in the first of a three-game series at UFCU Disch-Falk Field Friday night as they topped ACU, 18-0. UT future MLB draft pick Ty Madden was spectacular on the mound, as he has been all year, and he and his teammates limited the Wildcats to just four hits. ACU starter
Tyler Morgan went 2.2 innings, and the Wildcats (19-14) used four pitchers total in the game. Texas (28-8) has now won each of their last 11 games.
It was a five-run, three-hit first inning that featured a pair of run-scoring doubles and an rbi-single to put the Longhorns in front. Zach Zubia got the scoring started with the double, and Douglas Hodo III followed with a single to plate a pair. Cam Williams brought home the fifth run of the frame with a double, giving UT the 5-0 lead.
Texas added a run in the home second after Mitchell Daly singled into center, and it was 6-0 after two.
It was another five-run third to blow the game open, and UT scored another in the fourth on a solo home run off ACU reliever
Trevor Jackson to push the lead to 12-0.
ACU put runners on base in the second, third, and fourth innings, and had two on in both the third and fourth, but failed to push across a run.
UT scored in every inning in the game, and put the leadoff man on in each of the first six frames.
