LUBBOCK, Texas—ACU dropped two tough games to open the Texas Tech Invitational despite some stellar pitching. The team opened the day with a 6-3 loss to Kansas City before falling 1-0 to the Red Raiders.
Game 1
The Wildcats faced a tough Kansas City team to start the day who came into the weekend with a 7-1 record. It was ACU who struck first with an infield single from Miranda Davila to drive in
Calie Burris from third. The Roos answered in the bottom of the inning to tie things at 1-1. The Wildcats would retake the lead in the top of third when
Kayla Keeling drove in a run, and this time Sam Bradley and the defense held firm to hold the 2-1 lead through three innings. Errors haunted the Wildcats throughout the game and the Roos would put up three runs in the bottom of the fourth, but only one was earned. Kansas would go on to score a total of six runs in the game and the Wildcats were unable to get their bats going enough to get back in the game. Burris capped the game with a solo shot to right field. Sam Bradley pitched a great game with no walks and only two earned runs.
Game 2
The Wildcats and Red Raiders had a classic pitchers duel with Texas Tech coming away with the 1-0 victory.
Riley White pitched a gem, giving up just six hits, with her only misstep resulting in a solo shot for Tech. The Wildcats bats struggle once again as they managed just one hit, a single from White, on the day.
Farler Figures
On the solid pitching performance: "I'm so proud of both Riley and Sam's performances. They kept hitters off balance and really controlled the zone. Unfortunately, we did not get the defense we needed behind Sam today and our offense wasn't able to push anything through for Riley."
