Marc Mumper promoted to assistant baseball coach

ABILENE — Abilene Christian head baseball coach Rick McCarty announced the promotion of Marc Mumper to assistant coach with the program. Former assistant Tyler Coolbaugh recently took a job with the Texas Rangers minor league system as a hitting coach, so Mumper moves up as an assistant with the team.

We want to wish Tyler the best of luck with his new position with the Texas Rangers organization. We are very thankful for his time here with our program and know he will crush his next opportunity in pro ball. We were very fortunate to have Marc Mumper already on staff as our director of player development, so he will make the transition to the assistant coach title.

Mumper made his way to ACU after beginning his coaching career at Metro State University in Denver, Colo. Mumper began as the Director of Player Development this year for the Wildcats, spending the majority of his time assisting in all aspects of offense, defense, analytics, and academics.

Mumper comes from a baseball family, as his father is a member of the Colorado Dugout Club Hall of Fame, after a 32 year coaching career. Before beginning his coaching career, Mumper was drafted by the Rockies in 2015 and had a very strong career as a shortstop at Grand Canyon University. Mumper is from Highland Ranch, Colo.

Over the last three years, we have had three coaches on staff get promotions from this position. Daniel Furuto and Daniel Martony are now both full-time Division I coaches and now Tyler Coolbaugh is working with the Rangers. It is great to see these guys to get rewarded for their energy and effort. I would anticipate Marc climbing fast as well, with all that he brings to the table.

I love our coaching staff and I am very grateful for all that they do to help elevate our baseball program, as well as promote Abilene Christian University across the board. The development of so many new and young players has been fun to watch. I am ready to see them compete in less than three weeks.
