BEAUMONT, Texas – Senior
Ellen Joss tallied a team-high three shot attempts,
Lily Foster had five saves in net, but the ACU soccer team saw its season come to a close Sunday after at the LU Soccer Complex following a 1-0 defeat in double overtime to the Lamar Cardinals. The Wildcats end their season with a 6-9-1 overall record and a 4-5-1 mark in their first year of WAC play. ACU needed a win AND a Sam Houston loss to qualify for the league tournament, but the Cardinals scored in the second overtime to end that chance as the season comes to a close.
"Give credit to the Lamar keeper today," said head coach
Casey Wilson. "She won the game for them. We were everywhere except in the net even being down the last 35 minutes or so with a man down. The cruel nature of soccer is that the team who scores the goal wins despite who had the better run of play for the majority of the game. This was one of the better teams we have ever had here and not being in the tournament is disappointing."
The Wildcats were charged with a red card in the 75th minute, and ACU played with 10 the rest of the afternoon. Despite leading 18-12 in shot attempts, the Cardinals scored the lone goal to win it.
