ABILENE, Texas — Abilene Christian University director of athletics
Allen Ward announced late Saturday night that
Bobby Reeves has stepped down as the Wildcats' head softball coach.
Ward said ACU will immediately begin a national search for the just the fourth head softball coach in the program's history (1997-present).
Reeves just completed his ninth season as the Wildcats' head coach as ACU posted a 13-31 overall mark (6-21 in Southland Conference play). In his nine seasons as the Wildcats' leader, ACU was 216-232, including 116-113 in conference play (78-77 in six seasons at the Division I level in the Southland Conference).
In 14 seasons as a head coach with stops at Texas State (one season) and Texas Tech (four seasons) prior to ACU, Reeves has an overall record of 345-367.
"I want to thank Coach Reeves for his unwavering commitment to ACU and this program over the last nine years," Ward said. "It's been an honor to work with him and he will always be part of the family. Bobby is a man of faith, integrity and generosity and I am forever grateful for his friendship and will always admire his steadfast love for Jesus Christ."
Ward will lead the search to find Reeves' replacement, one that will not be rushed.
"There are a number of teams still competing in their respective conference tournaments and NCAA Tournament play will begin soon," Ward said. "Out of respect for those teams, there will be a number of candidates that will be unavailable until their season is complete.
"I'm excited about the future of ACU softball," he said. "I fully expect ACU to a factor each season in the race for a Southland Conference championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. My objective is to find a coach that can lead our program to that sustained level of success an impact the lives of the young women that choose to play collegiately at ACU."
