ABILENE – Abilene Christian baseball (10-11, 3-4 Southland) lost the first contest of its three-game series Friday at Southeastern Louisiana's PKD at Alumni Field, 14-1. Designated hitter Luis Trevino led the offense with three singles, and shortstop Dalton Dunn hit his third home run of the year for the Wildcats' lone score in the third inning.
Junior right-handed pitcher Spencer Chirpich, who was close to throwing a complete-game shutout this time last week at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, retired the first five batters he faced with three-consecutive strikeouts before surrendering back-to-back home runs in the second inning to Nick Ray and Nathan Pilutti.
The Lions (9-12, 2-2 Southland) scored once more off Chirpich (4K) in the third and was lifted with two outs in the fourth after Southeastern La. scored five times on five hits, including Ray's second home run.
SLU's left fielder blasted his third home run of the night as part of a four-run ninth inning to finish the game 3-for-5 with three runs and five RBI.
Trevino's three-hit performance lifted his season batting average to .400 (32-80).
The Wildcats and Lions continue their series Saturday at 2 p.m.
