WTEN action underway at ITA Texas Regionals

ABILENE -- Abilene Christian women's tennis concludes the fall portion of its 2019-20 schedule this weekend with the annual ITA Texas Regionals hosted by Texas A&M University. The tournament features competitors from all the state's DI universities and runs from Oct. 17 - 21.
The doubles draw is composed of 64 duos, and representing the Wildcats will be the tandems of Claire Fisher / Ileana Mocciola, Sarah Adams / Nini Memishishi, Allison Stewart / Sylvia Viljoen, and Eva Du Toit / Andrea Guerrero.
The singles' bracket is stacked with 128 student-athletes with ACU's first-round opposition featuring competitors from Rice, UT Arlington, UTRGV, UIW, TCU, Texas State and Texas A&M. Individuals who lose their opening match will be placed in a consolation draw.
All draws will be posted on the tournament website and results will be updated at the conclusion of each match.
Play is slated to begin at 8:30 a.m. each day, with the championship matches taking place on Monday.
The top doubles team and the singles finalists earn an automatic invitation to the Oracle ITA National Fall Championships in Surprise, Arizona. The tournament, held from Nov. 7-11, features the champions from each of the 12 regions around the country, as well as several at-large bids.
ACU last competed the weekend of Oct. 5 at the SMU Red and Blue Challenge, where the Wildcats won four of six singles matches vs. North Texas on the tournament's final day
Adams, Mocciola and Fisher all emerged victorious in three-set battles vs. the Mean Green. Adams won at the top line over Nidhi Surapaneni in comeback fashion, 1-6, 6-3, 10-4, while Mocciola engaged in a trio of tiebreakers, winning 7-6 (4), 6-7 (5), 10-8 over Sophia Hummel.
Fisher's win was a 6-4, 1-6, 10-8 decision over Hanuka Sasaki, and at the No. 2 line Memishishi toppled Kexuan Zhou in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3.
In doubles play, Fisher scored a pair of wins with two different teammates. She and classmate Du Toit beat North Texas' Sasaki and Hummel, 7-5, and later Fisher paired with Viljoen to beat a duo from Central Arkansas, 6-2.
Additional Wildcat victories included a No. 2 line singles win by Stewart over Northwestern State's Dora Szczygielska, 6-3, 6-3, and a top-position doubles win for Adams / Memishishi vs. UT Arlington's Liz Chileno / Polina Akimova, 6-1.
