Men's Tennis takes four to Tulsa for ITA All-Americans

Pre-Qualifying Singles Draw
ABILENE – Abilene Christian men's tennis will be represented by junior Nikolas Moceanu, transfer Akinori Wada and brother Joshua and Jonathan Sheehy at the Saint Francis Health System ITA All-American Championship, which is being hosted by the University of Tulsa for the for the 14th straight season.
All four players will begin competing Saturday in the pre-qualifying singles bracket, however, only the Sheehys will play doubles Sunday.
The team is coming off a solid showing at the Midland Racquet Club Collegiate Invitational, where Josh Sheehy and Moceanu won the doubles championship over Jonathan and teammate Sebastian Langdon, 8-6. Josh also reached the semifinals of the singles main draw at Midlands, finishing with a 3-1 record, while Jonathan went 4-1 to capture top honors in the consolation draw.
Moceanu scored his lone singles win at Midlands over SMU's Rory Samuels, 4-6, 6-3, 10-8, in the first round of consolation draw in between losses vs. Utah State and Texas A&M.
Wada is making his Wildcat debut this weekend after playing the previous two seasons at Collin College. He won 20 dual matches as a freshman playing at the top line in both singles and doubles, and again won 20 matches as a sophomore in leading his team to the Round of 16 at the NJCAA National Championship.
In addition to vying for the All-American national title, players will be competing to secure a berth into the 2018 Oracle ITA National Fall Championships, which takes place November 7-11, in Surprise, Arizona. Singles quarterfinalists, consolation singles champion and finalist, along with doubles semifinalists and consolation doubles champion and finalist advance to the end of fall national championship.
