Mt. SAC Relays Heat Sheet
ABILENE – Abilene Christian track and field Thursday learned that this weekend's Red Raider Open at Texas Tech was canceled due to inclement weather forecasted for Saturday. And even though the Wildcats won't seek another meet to attend, junior Alexandria Hackett will be running Friday night in the elite section of the 5,000-meter run at the prestigious Mt. SAC Relays in Norwalk, Calif.
Hackett's 38-woman section is scheduled to run at 9:45 p.m. central time / 7:45 p.m. pacific and features a mix of collegiate, international, amateur and professional runners. Among the fastest collegians in her flight are 20th-ranked Valerie Reina of Arkansas (16.06.66) and 25th-ranked Danielle Shanahan of Loyola Marymount (16:12.17). Hackett currently ranks 40th among all NCAA DI runners with a mark of 16:19.56, which she recorded two weeks ago at the Texas Relays.
Former Michigan All-America Erin Finn will be running unattached as will former Wichita State Shocker Aliphine Tuliamuk-Bolton and Sara Slattery, a two-time NCAA Champion at Colorado and 10K gold medalist at the 2007 Pan American Games.
Hackett has run the 5K twice this spring, starting with a 16:31.08 in Lubbock followed by her varsity record time of 16:19.56 in Austin, which earned her an eighth Southland Conference Athlete of the Week Award.
Indoors, Hackett won the Southland Conference Championship 5K in 16:39.24 and earlier in the season she clocked a sixth-place time of 16:10.65 at the UW Invitational. She was the third fastest collegian in that race, coming in behind Boise State's Allie Ostrander and Minttu Hukka.
Last outdoor season, Hackett won the 5K at conference (17:21.71) and ACU's Wes Kittley Invitational (17:34.02).
ACU's next scheduled team meet is Oklahoma's John Jacobs Invitational on April 23. The Wildcats will then play host to their Oliver Jackson Last-Chance Meet Wednesday, April 27.
