LOST PINES, Texas – Abilene Christian golf placed 11th of 13 teams at this week's Jim West Intercollegiate hosted by Texas State and the Wolfdance Golf Club. The Wildcats' quintet shot a 37-over 901 over the three rounds led by junior
Ryan Beatty's 8-over 224, which placed him 36th of 80 competitors.
Beatty was one over par through rounds one and two before encountering several tough moments during round three, including a double-bogey on nine that left him at 7-over 79.
Beatty's teammates
Clarke Hudgins and
Garrett Glanton each finished one stroke behind him at 9-over 225, while further back were
Dillon Vaughn (11-over 227) and
Luke Carpenter (18-over 232). Glanton carded an eagle on the par-5 14, which was his second hole of the second round.
Medalist honors went to Rice's Mitchell Meissner, who finished with a 9-under 207; however, his Owls finished third in the team standings at 1-under 63 behind runner-up McNeese (5-under 859) and Saint Mary's College, which ran away with the championship at 16-under 848. The Gaels had three individuals finish in the top five and all six within the top 25.
ACU golf completes its 2016 spring season at the Southland Conference Championship, which takes place April 18-20 at the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in McKinney, Texas.
