PALM BEACH GARDENS, Fla. - Abilene Christian men's golf landed in fifth place following the first day of action at the Florida Atlantic Invitational at Panther National on Monday. In the evening, tournament staff announced the event would be shortened to 36 holes, with teams returning to play at 7:30 a.m. (CT) Tuesday.
The Wildcats shot an even-par 497 through the first round and much of the second, with each golfer having 3-6 holes to complete when play resumes. ACU carded a 2-over 290 in the opening round and was at 2-under 207 in the second round at the end of the day.
Tarleton State leads the pack at 16-under 508, while third-place North Alabama is ahead of ACU by just four strokes at 4-under 512. Samford's Gavin Isbell and North Alabama's Andrew Ferworn top the individual leaderboard at 7-under 137.
ACU is tied for the top showing on par-3 holes at 2-over. Grégoire Hoyeau paces the Wildcats in a tie for 11th place at 3-under 128, while
Thomas Buisson, aiming for his fifth consecutive top-25 performance, is in a draw for 18th at 1-under 120.
Hoyeau logged a 2-under 70 in the first round and is 1-under 58 in the second round with three holes to go. He tallied three birdies on the back nine in the opening round and has four in the second to lead ACU with seven birdies total.
Buisson improved upon a 2-over 74 first round with a 3-under 46 with six holes to go in the second round. He shot 2-under 34 on the front nine, continuing his momentum from an even-par back nine in the first round. Hoyeau and Buisson have 23 pars each.
Preston Cooper, who registered a 1-under 215 in his past two tournaments, is tied for 35th at 1-over 125. He carded a 2-under 70 in the first round and is 3-over 55 with five holes to go in the second. Cooper has five birdies and shot under par on holes No. 3 and 7.
After a 6-over 78 first round,
Tres Hill began the second round 1-under 48. He's tied for 58th at 5-over 126 with six holes remaining.
Jack Hollingsed rounds out the Wildcats' lineup in a draw for 81st place at 11-over 139. He logged a 4-over 76 to begin the day and is 7-over 63 with four holes left in the second round.
